Danish Apple Squares

Instructions

  1. FOR CRUST, combine dry ingredients. Put yolk in 2/3 cup measure and add enough milk to fill. Cut shortening into dry ingredients and stir in milk mixture.
  2. Divide in half and roll to make crust for 10x15 inch jelly roll pan.
  3. FOR FILLING, put apples in crust. Combine sugar, cinnamon and cornstarch; sprinkle over apples. Put on top crust and brush with beaten egg white.
  4. Bake at 375F for 55 minutes.
  5. Combine icing ingredients and spread over bars while still warm.

Notes

The original recipe used tapioca instead of cornstarch.
