Oyster Stew
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 pint fresh oysters
- 3 cups milk
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
Instructions
- Heat milk, but DO NOT BOIL. Keep hot while you prepare the oysters.
- In a small soup pot, melt butter. Add oysters. Simmer until tje edges of the oysters curl.
- Add hot milk. Salt and pepper to taste. Let meld five minutes before serving.
- Serve with oyster crackers.

Milky, buttery soup.
I do not recall when Oyster Stew became a Christmas Eve tradition. I recall it being a tradition in the late 1980s, but can’t trust my memory.
If memory does serve me, Christmas eve we had Oyster Stew and Cream of Tomato Soup along with lots of oyster crackers and grilled cheese sandwiches.
